2.) Install Window Boxes
If you’d like to add some life to the exterior of your home, pick up some window boxes from your local home improvement store. Trust us, they make a big difference! Window boxes are the perfect outdoor accessory to add some extra style to your home. You can paint them fun, complimentary colors and add your favorite plants to them – the possibilities are endless and up to your imagination!
3.) Front Door Improvements
What is one of the first things you notice when you go to enter a house? There are a few things that may come to mind, but one thing for sure is, you’ll have to enter the home through the front door. Thus, making an effort to improve the appearance of your front door can go a long way in creating a lasting impression for guests or possible buyers. As mentioned above, you can add a new lock set; you can also add some fresh, fun colored paint or update your door completely with a brand new replacement. Either way, this is definitely something that’s worth doing and can be a fairly easy task.
4.) Dress Up your Front Porch
Before even entering the front door, guests or potential buyers will most likely peruse past your front porch, so make sure it’s looking it’s best! This is one of our favorite tips and allows you to be creative and add some of your own personality. Dress up your front porch with seating and other decorations to show off your personal style. Dressing up your front porch can come in many forms including adding comfortable seating, a decorative rug, indoor/outdoor carpeting, potted plants, an accent table – the list goes on!
5.) Install Outdoor Lighting
Once you put the effort into dressing up your front yard, of course, you’ll want people to see it! Install some outdoor lighting to shine some light on all the hard work you’ve put in on the exterior of your home. Light up your yard by grabbing some solar lights from your local home improvement store to stake in the ground. Also, if you’re looking to go above and beyond, get a brand new light fixture for your front porch. This will make hanging out on the patio THAT much more enjoyable!
6.) Add planters, trees, and/or a garden
One of our favorite improvements that we think everyone should do with their front yard is adding plant life! Plants are one of the best ways to bring life to your space as they provide pleasant things to look at and improve air quality. There are many different types of plants to choose from, so get creative and get something you like! As with most of these tips, you can find plenty of nice plants at your local home improvement store. Pro-tip: Arborvitaes are great decorative trees that will look beautiful all year round. Having a nice garden will definitely catch the eye of guests.
7.) Put down new mulch
In addition to adding plants around your home, an easy add-on can be to put new mulch around your plants/garden or freshen up a mulch area that you currently have. Over the years, your dark mulch can take on a faded look, which isn’t very attractive. Remember those plants that you just planted? Well, additional benefits to mulching your yard includes keeping weeds contained and promoting plant growth!
8.) Do a mailbox makeover
If you’re looking to improve your home’s curb appeal, don’t keep your cruddy, worn down mailbox untouched. One of the easiest things you can do to instantly improve curb appeal is to update your mailbox. You can either paint/decorate the one you have or buy a new one that better fits your vision. Whether it’s at the front of your driveway or on your porch, having a fresh mailbox will surely make a difference in the overall look of your home.
9.) Add shutters or accent trim
Adding shutters or accent trim is a great way to add a pop of color to your home. There are a few different styles of shutters you can choose from – some with designs, some that are solid. It all depends on what you think will look best with your home. Check out this article if you need help deciding on what shutters will fit your home.
10.) Replace gutters and downspouts
Finally, one of the more involved tasks when improving your home’s curb appeal is to replace faulty or worn out gutters and downspouts. Aside from looking nice, this will be a huge functional improvement to ensure gutters are draining properly and prevent water build up or possible flooding in certain areas of your home. Not to mention, future home-buyers will surely thank you for making this improvement so they don’t have to worry about it.
